I grew up during a time when YouTube first began to take off. In the earlier days, these platforms were simply seen as a tool to connect with one another and share the occasional viral video with friends. No one could have imagined the ways in which these platforms would shape the consumption of content forever.

However, as David grew into a Goliath, the existing monopoly that these video platforms enjoyed sounded the death knell for continuous innovation for creators. Instead, the focus shifted towards unlocking the best revenue opportunities for the platform itself. Today, the reality is that unless a content creator was attracting millions of viewers on a recurring basis, their video channel will not be able to provide them with the economic viability which was once an option for them previously. This is why what we do at Bolt is so important. We are committed to giving the power back to the content creator, and recapturing the spirit with which this content industry was built on. Anyone, from anywhere, should be able to put their content on Bolt+, and get a fair shot at making a career out of it. Creative and financial freedom no longer need to be elusive or mutually exclusive for any content creator today

Through my previous experience of running television and media networks across Asia and Africa, I have been significantly touched by the real-life stories of people on the ground who are being left out of the information highway. Existing media platforms and web2 networks are not always creator or user friendly - there is an overwhelming amount of information, but not enough accessible opportunities to distribute and create value easily.

This was my North Star for Bolt - to build the best way we could enable information, entertainment and financial inclusion for all. My vision for Bolt is to enable people from all walks of life to have access to information and entertainment that will empower them to learn more about the power of value creation and exchange. I want to ensure that the underserved are not left out of the information highway, and to have equalised opportunities to create their own creative and financial freedom through us, especially through the power of the blockchain. This is my life’s work and I am proud that we are contributing in our own ways to make it more fair, equitable and meaningful for the creative economy.

The turning point for me was reading the Bitcoin whitepaper and learning about Ethereum in 2015. That was when I knew that this would define the next generation of the internet. Just as web2 was characterised by its ability to let anyone exchange information around the world almost instantly, I knew that the next generation of the internet would allow anyone to create and exchange value in the same manner. But I knew that for the seamless exchange of value to occur, and capture the true imagination and adoption of the masses, it needed something accessible - like creativity, or entertainment, to form the medium and purpose of this creation and exchange of value.

Bolt Global represents my life’s work and purpose to bring the power of the blockchain to everyone. Just as I discovered the world of information through web2 platforms like Twitter and Google, I would like to enable a creative revolution of people to use Bolt to create and exchange value seamlessly. My goal is for them to live the best versions of their most creative self every day, and for Bolt to play a contributing role to making that future possible. Our team is exemplary and committed to the vision of our ecosystem, and I am confident that we are taking the right steps to grow a meaningful business, one revolution at a time.

I joined the broadcasting and media industry in the late 90s where the broadcasters ruled content. Viewers do not get to choose the content nor the choice not to watch the commercials (let alone interact). Then, in the last 10 years, media convergence finally happened. Voila! Users can now engage, interact and post their content easily. But the mindset of the individual users is still ‘limited’ with a great majority of them using such platforms as just a means to collect followers, likes and comments, and not realising that their content are the spine of these platforms. And even if individual users realise this, I think they have limited understanding on the “how” and “where” to capitalise on.

The shift is happening now at Bolt. We have built. a seamless platform whether to entertain or be entertained, to earn money or to participate in a Community. We are also changing the world of broadcasting, media marketing and the crypto/blockchain in what we are doing.

As you can see, coming from where I came from, this is very exciting for me (although I have much to learn). So, this is why I want to be a part of this history in the making and success story of Bolt Global

Growing up in Southeast Asia, I gained a healthy respect for the power of the media. I recall being angered by how its administration was reserved for a few people who sought to wield its influence for their own gain. I promised myself that I would always do my best to decentralise the imbalance of control welded by a few and use the media as an enabler for good. In the following years, I witnessed traditional media getting swept aside by social media behemoths. Despite their achievements, I have been left disappointed by the lack of care shown by these platforms towards their users.

Around this time, I became interested in how blockchain technology might be harnessed to decentralise the power of media platforms and deliver more value for their users. I am passionate about what I do at Bolt because our mission is simple yet essential: we want to provide creative and financial freedom for users and enable them to create value for themselves. I work with a diverse group of like-minded people devoted to achieving this goal. Our journey as a team has left me excited and given me renewed optimism about the future of media and technology.

Gen Z is many things, but perhaps known best as the digital generation: the first to have grown up fluent in internet speak. Yet this came at a price, as we instinctively yielded control over personal data. Somehow, we shifted from total privacy in the pre - digital age to none at all. The paradigm shift of the internet to web 3 represents an opportunity to regain our data ownership, whilst still maintaining our much loved world of connectivity.

It seems to me that BOLT is capitalising on the opportunity; using the blockchain combined with decentralised finance to enable global access to content. The result is a platform onto which anyone can share their content, and millions can view it: expanding our world view through entertainment.

I have always pushed myself to do interesting work and pick up diverse skills. Besides having a glider and private pilots licence by the age of 17, I enjoy skiing, sailing, and travelling to new places. When you work at a startup, you need to be driven, open to new ideas, and responsive to change. I also like the variety of my work at Bolt Global. On one day, I could be modelling the structure of a corporate exercise, and on another day, I could be working on setting up an ERP or a cyber security programme.

I am proud to be working for a company which I will one day enrich the lives of millions of content creators (monetarily speaking) and the quality of life for viewers of the content on our platform.

My experience with Bolt has been exceptional. I was very well trained for my role and able to assimilate seamlessly into the professional culture. Christel Quek

Executive Director

Christel co-founded BOLT Global and currently serves as Chief Technology Officer. A Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree in 2019, Christel has led senior roles across Fortune 500 companies, including as Head of Content at Twitter as one of the first hires across Twitter’s International Markets. Prior to starting BOLT Global, Christel was one of the first members and the Chief Marketing Officer at Zilliqa, the smart-contract enabled blockchain protocol.

Prior to Zilliqa and Twitter, Christel was the Social Business Lead for Samsung in Asia. As the Vice President of Asia Pacific at Brandwatch, she grew the business to a 7-digit P&L in just a year, with clients including Samsung, Uber, Telstra, and Cisco before it got acquired by Cision. Christel started her career as the Global Social Manager for Havas Group (part of Bollore Group) where she worked on business transformation and digital innovation projects for global brands such as Intel, KLM Airlines, and DBS Bank.

Christel currently serves on the Board of Trovio Group, a leading asset management and technology company which also provides institutional investment products for the digital asset space. She also serves on the Board of Directors of *SCAPE, a non-profit organisation that supports youth, talent and leadership development in Singapore, which reports directly to the Ministry for Culture, Community and Youth of the Singapore Government. Christel received her Bachelor of Arts (Geography) from the National University of Singapore in 2012.
